Understanding VMMC

Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) is a simple and safe surgical procedure that significantly reduces the risk of HIV infection and improves long-term health.

Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) involves the removal of the foreskin and is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a critical HIV prevention strategy. In addition to reducing HIV risk, VMMC offers several other sexual and reproductive health benefits.

The NRHS VMMC Program: An Overview

The NRHS VMMC program is a vital initiative aimed at reducing HIV transmission and enhancing male reproductive health. As part of Kenyaโ€™s national and global efforts to curb the spread of HIV, our program provides safe, high-quality circumcision services aligned with the vision of an AIDS-free generation. We integrate VMMC with broader sexual and reproductive health services to ensure comprehensive care.

Why VMMC?

Scientific studies show VMMC lowers the risk of heterosexual HIV transmission by about 60%.

Reduces risk of other STIs such as HPV and syphilis and lowers the chance of penile cancer.

Improves hygiene and overall genital health.

Has no negative impact on sexual performance or pleasure.
